Transitions - Womens' group

A Dance of Awareness women's intensive

Saturday 2nd September 2023, 11am - 6pm

A workshop for six women - with Clare Osbond, asssited by Laurence Baretto de Souza

How do you react to change? Do you welcome it or resist it? Or a bit of both? We live our lives between order and chaos. Too much stability and we stagnate, too much disorder and we fragment.

Do you like the idea of change? But then somehow it just doesn’t happen and you find yourself staying the same? Or change might seem like a good idea at the time… but then as it approaches the desire to stay kicks in…

This is the conflict between being and non-being. I am continually being faced with the possibility of being, of fulfilling my existence – whatever that might mean to me, or to you. The very possibility of which can threaten my safety and security. I have the choice. Do I chose to fulfil or deny my newly emerging potentiality?

And how does that look? Do you follow your flow, your natural rhythms – or ‘push through’, overriding any doubts or fears? When to push through and when to maintain the status quo. We need to maintain enough safety and stability to stay receptive and yet be open enough to be able to respond spontaneously. This is the sea-saw of life. As the sea-saw tips, there is a transition. It may make way for new possibilities of being, of becoming. And it doesn’t always feel like a choice. And sometimes it isn't a choice.

Dance of Awareness allows us to discover more about the dance between body and mind, the blocks to action and the sources of energy that if mobilised, could empower and transform us.

Dance of Awareness lets us explore ourselves as a dynamic being in relationship – to ourselves, to others and to our environment. We grow and evolve together. We respond to each other through non-verbal cues - our smiles, our tears, our movements. We find ourselves through each other. Through our sharing and through our difference. I change you; you change me. Through the Dance of Awareness cycle we transition from one phase to the next – from Sensing, to Grounding, to Expressing, to Releasing, to Connecting and then to Completing. As well, there will be other transitions throughout the day – arrival in the space, the group, leaving the space, the group - and whatever may be arising within you and ready (or not) to be ‘birthed’ into being.

We will spend the day moving between words and movement. There will be time spent in the circle, time dancing / moving through the DoA cycle (with music) and time for feeding back and sharing. Some of the dance / movement work will be done as individuals and some in connection. We will explore together what is already happening, what is trying to happen and what might be stopping things from happening - both individually and as a group.

We (Clare & Laurence) and you, a group of six women - together. We will dance together, share together. There may be laughter, there may be tears. Its all welcome. You are welcome. Wherever you are at this time. We will endeavour to provide you with the safety and support for you to work at your own pace and at your own rhythm.

Clare and Laurence are both Dance of Awareness practitioners and experienced psychotherapists. Clare is a Body and Movement Psychotherapist and Laurence is an Integrative Psychotherapist and Mindfulness Teacher.
